President Donald J. Trump will be awarding the Congressional Medal of Honor to Master Sergeant Matthew O. Williams’, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry displayed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The presentation of his award will be on October 27, 2019, at the White House . Office of the Press Secretary, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, October 10, 2019President Donald J. Trump to Award the Medal of Honor On October 30, 2019, President Donald J. Trump will award the Medal of Honor to Master Sergeant Matthew O. Williams, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry while serving as a Weapons Sergeant in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  On April 6, 2008, while serving as a member of a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 3336, Special Operations Task Force-33, assault element, then-Sergeant Williams exposed himself to insurgent fire multiple times while rescuing other members of the assault element and evacuating numerous casualties. In the face of rocket-propelled grenade, sniper, and machine gun fire, Sergeant Williams led an Afghan Commando element across a fast-moving, ice cold, and waist-deep river to fight its way up a terraced mountain to the besieged lead element of the assault force. Sergeant Williams then set up a base of fire that the enemy was not able to overcome.

Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Staff Sgt. David Bellavia. On June 25, 2019, the President of the United States, President Donald Trump, presented the Congressional Medal of Honor to Staff Sargent David Bellavia (United States Army). SSgt Bellavia became the first living recipient from OIF to receive this honor. This distinguished honor is the highest honor given to anyone serving in the U.S. military for actions that go above and beyond their call of duty.

President Donald J. Trump awards the Congressional Medal of Honor (MOH) to Sergeant Major John L. Canley, United States Marine Corps (Retired), for conspicuous gallantry. Sergeant Major John L. Canley receivd the MOH for his actions from January 31 to February 6, 1968, while he was ssigned to Company A, First Battalion, First Marines while in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant Major Canley fought off several enemy attacks as his company moved along a highway toward Hue City to relieve friendly forces who were surrounded. On several occasions, despite his own wounds, he rushed across fire-swept terrain to carry wounded Marines to safety. After his commanding officer was severely wounded, he took command and led his company into Hue City.
